Master Dutch Flower Painting
For centuries artists and admirers have marveled at the exquisite floral bouquets painted by the Dutch Masters of 17th century Holland. Their depictions of flora were unrivaled in their accuracy, detail and beauty and set the standard for this genre. We are excited to be able to offer an amazing opportunity to study Dutch floral painting in London with instructor Carlo Russo. This seven day workshop will be the most in depth workshop he has ever given on flower painting. The instructor will lead the class through five days of floral painting, in addition to museum visits, lectures, daily demonstrations, critiques, materials review, and a visit to a botanical garden. Truly a floral painters dream. Held in a gorgeous historic artist studio with exquisite high North facing windows, an artist’s dream to be experienced.
Day 1-2: The students will begin the workshop with a visit to the National Gallery and to The Wallace Collection. The instructor will lead the tours each day to show the class some of the finest examples of Dutch floral painting in the world. These examples will help illustrate some of the methods and concepts that the students will be learning during the workshop.
Day 3-7: This will be the painting portion of the class, where over the course of 5 days the students will paint their own small Dutch flower piece, guided by the instructor. The class will begin with a lecture, followed by a flower painting demonstration. The students will begin their own floral painting and will be painting flowers exclusively from life during the week. Each day the instructor will give a demonstration to reinforce and expand upon the techniques that the students will learn in class. All students will get one-on-one help and critique as the instructor moves around the room.
